A Girl from Ipanema, is the greatest Latin Jazz I have ever heard. Its in fact the greatest jazz to me. One will not get bored listening to this masterpiece again and again. It’s perfect! Simplicity of this music, makes me feel that the world is just a perfect place to be.
Music is definitely borderless and has cross cultural effect on everyone.. by elvin siew
Introduction of “The Girl from Ipanema”
![]() |
Astrud Gilberto, known as “The Girl from Ipanema” and often referred to as “The Queen of Bossa-Nova”, is an artist with roots firmly planted in Brazilian music. Her music has become an interesting combination of the sensual rhythms of Brazil and American Pop and Jazz. |
|
Astrud was first introduced to the World at large in 1964 through “The Girl From Ipanema”, the Grammy-winning recording with Stan Getz and her then-husband João Gilberto (the father of Bossa Nova). |
|
For decades Stan Getz was one of America’s top tenor saxophone players. His main early influence was Lester Young, but he grew up to become a major influence on future generations of sax players in his own right. His instantly recognisable tone and his polished playing earned him the nickname “The Sound”. |
Enjoy….

A great job indeed – cool music and commentry, now I have actually given it a go I think its great!!!
Being a narrow minded bastard I thought he only application of having audio on my blog was for some poor soul to be harrassed by me telling them to get thier shit together. I never thought of doing something not based around WORK! I am going to be a regular visitor. Spread the love, Elvin!
